SLOANE AVERY
Please join me at my Festa de Quinze Anos on Saturday, January 9, 2027. This is important to me because I am a born and raised Catholic. I chose to join my sisters and mom in Catholic faith because I love how Catholicism is dedicated to help everyone in need.
This past year, I completed my Catholic Sacraments to date, including my Catholic Confirmation. I choose Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton who is the patron saint of Catholic schools, teachers, widows and orphans, and people who have been persecuted for their faith.
I am drawn to her because of her charity in teaching the most vulnerable and being rejected by society for it. I also choose Saint Joan of Arc because I aspire to have her bravery and resilience. She is the patron saint of France, feminism, freedom and independence. After visits with archangel Michael, Joan disguised herself as a male warrior and led France to victory in the siege of Orleans and the crowning of King Charles VII.
However, due to her power and piety, the king soon turned on her and accused her of being a witch because she spoke to angels. She was burned at the stake but later canonized as a saint.
I believe in LGBTQ+ equality and rights, reproductive rights, social justice, no human is illegal, and science is real and especially geothermal energy.

Talents and Hobbies: I have so many! I have been a swimmer since I was 4 months old and have been swimming competitively for the last two year with the Rockville Rays and have a fierce breaststroke.
I have also trained as a competitive (foil) fencer for the past six years and even won gold for 11/12-year-old foil. As you will hear, I have been doing piano performance since age 9 and will showcase my talents to this point in a performance during the Quinze. For hobbies, I love to write fantasy and historical fiction stories--one day I will publish a few. I also can often be found dancing to K-Pop and everything with an energetic beat.
However, what you'll catch me doing most often is drawing, crocheting, and painting, including my original animal characters which go with my stories. I also love all kinds of music ranging from Country and Western, K-Pop, retro 70s through 90s, Hyper Pop, and Hits.

INTERESTS & HIGHLIGHTS
I love math and science and work hard to learn as much as I possibly can because I plan to be a marine biologist specializing in oceanic studies. I have loved sharks and everything about them since I first learned to read.
There is not a week that goes by that I'm not telling someone a fun fact about sharks, and I hope to make this passion a career at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). My favorite sharks are goblin sharks and lemon sharks.
Ask my why! That is what I hope to do for a paycheck, but I am also dedicated to being an explorer and adventurer. I aspire to travel and possibly live in Japan. I plan to study abroad at least one college semester in Tokyo and eat my way through many neighborhoods trying all the different types of authentic ramen.
