SLOANE AVERY
Please join me at my Festa de Quinze Años on Saturday, January 9, 2027. This is important to me because I am a born and raised Catholic. I chose to join my sisters and mom in the Catholic faith because I love how Catholicism is dedicated to helping everyone in need.
This past year, I concluded all the Rite of Initiation Catholic Sacraments, including my Catholic Confirmation. At Confirmation, I chose Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton who is the patron saint of Catholic schools, teachers, widows and orphans, and people who have been persecuted for their faith. I am drawn to her because of her charity in teaching the most vulnerable and being rejected by society for it. I am also deeply drawn to Saint Joan of Arc because I aspire to have her bravery and resilience. After visits with Arcangel Michael, Joan disguised herself as a male warrior and led France to victory in the siege of Orleans. However, due to her power and piety, she was accused of being a witch because she spoke to angels.
She was burned at the stake but later canonized as a saint.
I believe in LGBTQ+ equality and rights, women’s rights, and social justice.
I believe no human is illegal and that science is real, especially geothermal energy (inside joke).

MY FAVORITE THINGS
I have so many favorite things and hobbies. I have been a swimmer since I was 4 months old. I have been swimming competitively for years with the Rockville Rays swim team and have a fierce breaststroke.
I have also trained as a competitive (foil) fencer for the past six years and even won gold in the 11/12-year-old foil class for Rockville. I have been studying with Startsong Studio and performing piano since age 9. I will play for you during the Quinze. This year I am on the Varsity Field Hockey team.
For hobbies, I love to write fantasy and historical fiction stories--one day I will publish a few. I love reading Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I also can often be found dancing to K-Pop and everything with an energetic beat.
What you'll catch me doing most often is drawing, crocheting, and painting, including my original animal characters which go with my stories. I also love all kinds of music ranging from Country and Western, K-Pop, retro 70s through 90s, Hyper Pop, and Hits

INTERESTS & HIGHLIGHTS
I love math and science and work hard to learn as much as I possibly can because I plan to be a marine biologist specializing in oceanic studies. I have loved everything about sharks since I first learned to read.
There is not a week that goes by that I'm not telling someone a fun fact about sharks, and I hope to make this passion a career at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). My favorite sharks are goblin sharks and lemon sharks.
Ask me why!
Oceanic Studies are what I hope to do for a paycheck, but I am also dedicated to being an explorer and adventurer. I aspire to travel and possibly live in Japan. I plan to study abroad at least one college semester in Tokyo and eat my way through many neighborhoods trying all the different types of authentic ramen.
